Holiday Carols

The students have been practicing holiday songs for weeks. Below are pictures of the kids performing the songs for a company that helps our school with funding and does so much for us! We sang Christmas carols, Hanukah songs, and even one in Spanish. Our class did so great. I had so many wonderful singers this year!

Roll and Count

More and Less

The activity the students are doing are adding one more and two more to a set of numbers. It helps with their number sense and ability to see combinations. They love this activity.

Happy Halloween!

Students were given three jack-o-lantern faces and had to pick one as their favorite. We made a graph with the results. The winning face was then carved into a jack-o-lantern. We got to look at the inside of a pumpkin and students got to touch the inside and smell the pumpkin. We had a great time!

Blends

We are learning about blends in words. Students have to find the pictures that match the first picture on the card. Example: A picture of a tree would have all picture cards that begin with the "tr" sound.

Write, write, write

One way we work on writing is having every student make a page for a class book. The book pictured had each student write their name and count the letters in their name. It's a great way for students to understand capital letters, letters versus words, and directionality.

Writing time!

Anthony was in the writing center during language arts workstation time and made a patterned text book all by himself! I love when students take what they learn and apply their knowledge independently. What a success!

Best in Show!

We had our first "Best in Show" ceremony today! All the Pre-k through 2nd grade classes went to the gym to celebrate those students showing their Beagle PAWS. Students that are caught doing the right thing are given paws by other teachers. The more paws they earn, the better the prize they get during the ceremony. Giving paws to other students help remind them of appropriate behaviors expected around the school. It is a great reward for them and helps reinforce good behavior!

Students in Ms. Crowl's Class that earned paws from other teachers. Yay!

Math Time!

In kindergarten, math skills are very important! We are learning to count forward and backward to 5, learn about shapes, measurement, and much more. The children are learning to sort items by color, shape, size, and they love it!

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Hi Ms. Crowl's Owls! I am so excited to start a new kindergarten year with such a wonderful and energetic group of kids. We have been learning so much in these past few weeks of school and have much more to come.

The beginning of kindergarten focuses on a lot of rules and social skills such as working together, sharing, using kind words. One thing we are working on as a school is bullying prevention. The first school wide get together was put together by our art teacher Mrs. Frith. We celebrated bullying prevention by each student creating a pinwheel for "Pinwheels for Peace." The whole school created a pinwheel and sang a song to reinforce peace and bullying prevention. The kids had a great time!

Rainforest Project Based Learning

This summer I taught a first grade summer school class. Students chose a topic they wanted to learn about and we began working. The first graders decided to research the rainforest so they could learn about lots of different types of wildlife. The students had so much fun researching about animals in the rainforest and creating a rainforest of their own. They researched through books, internet, and listening to read alouds. It was a lot of work but the outcome was great

They made animals that live in rivers of the rainforest.

Students made bats and wrote facts.

Students wrote and drew a picture about an animal of their choice.

Students created their own nocturnal animals.
